Wilmar "Bill" Henrickson, 91, of Staples, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Lakewood Care Center in Staples. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Staples United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mark Bateson officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, June 10, 2013, from 5-7 PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 10:15 AM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
Wilmar "Bill" was born on August 15, 1921 in Inwood, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Margaret, on March 14, 1945 in California. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and received a Purple Heart, served on the USS Nevada as a Gunner's Mate serving in multiple campaigns. After the US Navy his work was building homes, he was self employed and retired from building after 40 years in 1986. He was active in church, VFW, American Legion and Carpenter's Union. He enjoyed woodcarving and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Diane (Wes) Budke of Locust Grove, Virginia, Gerald (Deborah) Henrickson of Staples, Minnesota, Denise (Glen) Gono of Mililani, Hawaii, Gregg (Peggy) Henrickson of Chaska, Minnesota; sister, Alice Schmidt of South St. Paul, Minnesota; 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest; sisters, Eleanor and Ardis.
