William E. Fabian, 84, passed away at the Lakewood Health System Care Center, Tuesday December 1, 2010. A memorial service is planned for Monday December 6, at 11:00 AM at the Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Pastor Steve Sveom officiating. Visitation will be Sunday December 5 from 4 - 5:30 at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at a later date.
William was born in Durbin, ND. He lived in the Herman, MN area in his early years and most of his adult life in Fargo, ND. He and his wife, Charlotte moved to Staples in 2006, to be closer to family. William worked in sales and service in the sound business for over 35 years. In 1975, he became owner and operator of Music Systems and worked there until his retirement in 1992.
In Fargo, William was very actively involved with St. John Lutheran Church. In addition to many years as a member of the church choir, he served as congregational president, council member and on various committees including building, clergy calling and anniversary. Singing with the FM Ambassadors Barbershop Quartet was also an activity engaged by William. For over 50 years, William touched countless lives of young men through his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, receiving many awards including the Silver Beaver and the Lutheran Lamb Award for outstanding service to youth and God. Other pastimes included golf, fishing and hunting. Above all this William's love of his family and spending time visiting with them, and other friends was the highlight of his life. His family will remember him for his love and enjoyment of visiting with everyone.
William is a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy aboard the USS South Dakota.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Martha (Gerber) Fabian and 7 brothers and sisters.
William is survived by his wife Charlotte of 59 years; Children, David (Beth) Fabian of Staples, MN, Daniel (Roxanne) Fabian of Roseau, MN, John (Alana) Fabian of Coon Rapids, MN, and Mary (Casey) Whelan of Maple Grove, MN; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Motley Honor Guard, Motley American Legion, Tri-County Post 124 will provide full Military Honors.
