William Campbell

William "Don" Campbell, age 89, of Verndale, passed away at the Lakewood Health System Hospital. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, April 27, at 2:00 PM, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. Visitation will begin at 12:00. Burial will be at the Green Lawn Cemetery in Verndale following the memorial service.


Don was born on June 15, 1921, to Clarence and Lillian (Robinson) Campbell, in Wadena, MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Staples, graduating from high school there. In 1943, he entered the Army, serving for three years. When he returned from the military he began farming on his own. In 1949, he married Wanda Taylor and they had a son, Dale. Wanda passed away January 15th, 1979 at the age of 56. Don's second marriage was to Arlene Sellnow. Don retired from farming in 1986, but stayed living on the farm until moving to the Clarissa Care Center last year. Don enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a very active member in the Masons.


Don is survived by his children, Sharon, Dennis, Roxanne, Dale, Kathy, Peggy, and Randy; his sisters, Helen Snyder and Myra Campbell; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Wanda and Arlene; and sisters, Ida and Cora.


Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
