Wilfred Willis Neugebauer was born March 27, 1918 in Dimock, SD, to Edward and Clara (Luebke) Neugebauer. He grew up on the family farm. Following his school years he farmed in South Dakota and then in North Dakota before moving to Brainerd in 1959. He was united in marriage to Elaine Fryklind, February 28, 1959, in Brainerd. He worked as a roll wrapper at Potlatch until a medical disability forced him to retire in 1976. Wilfred was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Baxter, and his faith was an important part of his life. He loved his family deeply and was a conscientious husband and father. He enjoyed cooking, especially German specialties. He was always a giving person and a skilled woodworker, making and giving away many dollhouses. He also loved to garden.
Wilfred will be deeply missed by Elaine, his wife of 47 years; his children, Maurice (Vickie) Bakkila, of Brainerd, Sherry (George) Krushe, of Pillager, and Mark Neugebauer, of Brainerd; two brothers, Vernon Neugebauer and Luverne Neugebauer, and three sisters-in-law, Nelda Neugebauer, Anita Neugebauer, and Jeanette Neugebauer, all of South Dakota; and 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond Neugebauer, Lewis Neugebauer, and Everett Neugebauer; two sisters, Lona Neugebauer and an unnamed infant; and two grandchildren, John Bakkila and Gina Braverman.
