Westal Maine

Westal Maine, age 80, of Pequot Lakes, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Sunday, September 20, 2015, at his home. He was born to Hiram and Laura Maine at the family home in Pequot Lakes on September 2, 1935. Westal graduated in 1954 from Pine River High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He married the love of his life, Marian Wymore, on June 10, 1961. Westal's passion was farming and he was a lifelong dairy and beef farmer. One of his greatest joys was being able to take trips to Alaska with each of his five children. He enjoyed music, ice fishing, coffee at the coffee shop and loved spending time with his family, neighbors and cows. He was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Community Church.

Westal is survived by his wife, Marian; children: Merrilee Ackerman (Mike), Westal Maine (Bridget), Wendy Hanson (Skip), Laura Arends (Greg), Boyd Maine (Dawn); brothers, Horton (Jackie), Dale (Betty), Albert (Ruth); sister, Carol Hines; sister-in-law, Dedo Maine; 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Boyd; and brother-in-law, Bill Hines.

Services will be 2 PM on Friday, September 25, at Pleasant Hill Community Church, rural Pequot Lakes. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
