Wendell L. Fristedt, 85, of Brainerd, passed away at his home Saturday. October 18, 2014. A Celebration of Wendell's Life is scheduled for 10:30 AM, Friday, October 24 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Baxter. Pastor Kevin Robson will officiate. A Reception will follow services at the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room in Baxter, MN. Interment with Military Honors will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
Wendell was born February 24, 1929 in Minneapolis, the son of Albin and Hazel (Samuelson) Fristedt. After high school, Wendell furthered his education as a graduate of the University of Minnesota as well as an ROTC Instructor with the US Army. He served his country during the Korean War and following his honorable discharge he began a life-time career with Montgomery Wards as a Store Manager. Church, charitable activities, donations, volunteer work and community support was important to Wendell. He was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and a prior member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was also a volunteer for many community organizations: RSVP, Meals-On-Wheels, AARP TaxAide, Camp Knutson, Rotary, and Chamber of Commerce Boards. He was a U of M supporter and a member of the American Legion.
He will be missed for his familiar smile, sense of humor and outgoing personality. He often considered his most notable accomplishment as being married to Goldie for 59 years. He enjoyed reading, puzzles, and working and gardening in the yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Goldie; daughter, Sheila Godfrey; son, Jason Fristedt; grandchildren, Jaime Sather and Racheal Creamer; great-grandchild, Riley Sather; and aunt, Dorine Lundeen.
