Wayne Melvin Olson, age 86, passed away May 25, 2016 in Laguna Hills, California. He was born June 2, 1929 in Brainerd, MN to Earl and Zelma (King) Olson. He grew up on a farm on East Twin Lake, south of Pequot Lakes. He graduated Pequot Lakes High School in 1947. He married Sarah Ann Carol Nelson on June 2, 1952. They moved to California in 1960, eventually settling in Tustin. Wayne was self-employed as a heavy equipment operator. He was active in his church and community; he was awarded the Silver Beaver award by the Boy Scouts of America.
He enjoyed woodworking, the New York Yankees, classic country music and his German shepherd dogs. Upon retirement, they moved back to Pequot Lakes in 1994 where he worked as a school bus driver, handyman, and served on the Pequot Lakes Area Historical Society board. After Sarah Ann's death in 2011, he relocated to California. Wayne loved God, his family and spending time with friends. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and can-do attitude.
Wayne is survived by his sons: Kevin (Joyce) of Pequot Lakes; Clare (Sue) of Laguna Hills, CA; daughters: Teri (Lance) Whitney of Dana Point, CA; Melissa (Vince) Eden of Canyon Lake, CA; brothers: Jesse (Deanna), Allan (Donna) and Ivan (Linda) and 10 grandchildren: Bonnie, Sonja, Wayne, Julianne, Leif, Kjerstin, Nelson, Joel, Sam, Gianna; and five great grandchildren: Hannah, Isaac, Matea, Elsa and Abigail.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister, Winnifred.
Come celebrate Wayne's life with us! A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16 2016 at 11:00, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes, MN. Lunch to follow. Interment to be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements by Brenny Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes. ArrangementWs have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel.
