Wayne Hoffman

January 1, 1949 — December 20, 2017

Wayne Hoffman, 68, of Cushing, MN passed away suddenly at his home, Wednesday, December 20, 2017, surrounded with his family by his side. A Celebration of Life for Wayne will be at 11:00AM, Thursday, December 28th, at Motley United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Leslie officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7PM, Wednesday, December 27th at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and one hour prior to services at the church.

Wayne was born January 1, 1949 in Estherville, IA to Lyle and Gwendolyn (Newton) Hoffman. He grew up in Orleans, IA and started working on a farm when he was 13. Wayne was drafted and served in the US Army for 2 years. Upon his return home from Germany, he was united in marriage to Catherine Nesvik, just before Christmas, 1972, in Spirit Lake, IA; soon after, the couple moved and relocated to Motley, where they built Tri-County Livestock Auction, Inc.

Together they had three children; Justin, Jennifer & Julie. Wayne spent most of his life traveling the countryside gathering up consignments for the auctions held at Tri-County Livestock and still continued to manage the business even after he sold it in 1999. Wayne had just recently retired from his manager position at Tri-County Livestock, but continued to own and operate his feedlot, Tri-County Cattle Company. Wayne loved his work, and never slowed down, only for a brief trip to go fishing in Canada once in a while in the summer months. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Wayne is survived by his three children; Justin, Jennifer (Tim Morrow), Julie (Wyatt Johnson); his two cats, Apollo & Squeaky; all of Motley, MN; granddaughter, Charlie; Grandson, Ethan; Brother, Tom (Ronaleen) of Spirit Lake, IA; brother-in-law, Don Nesvik of Greeley, CO; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine (Cathy); his parents; and two sisters. Services have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
