Warren Scribner Jr.

Warren Eugene Scribner Jr., age 84, of Staples, passed away at the Lakewood Health System Hospital on Monday, November 10, 2008. A funeral mass is planned for Thursday, November 13, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, with Fr. Scott Wittkop officiating. The viewing will be on Wednesday evening from 5-7, with a Rosary at 6:15 and Prayers at 6:30, and one hour prior to the service at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. Burial will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
Warren was born on April 29, 1924, to Warren and Catherine (Wonders) Scribner, in Staples, MN. He grew up in Staples and attended school there. In 1943 he joined the US Army to fight for his country in World War II. He was wounded in combat and received a Purple Heart. After the war, Warren took a job as a trainman for Burlington Northern Railroad. On October 15, 1946 Warren married Dorothy Dahm at a ceremony in Staples. Warren worked for the railroad for 39 years, retiring in 1984 as a conductor. Warren was a member of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, candle making, horses, quilting, word searches, and John Wayne movies.

Warren is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Claudia (Darrell) Engdahl of Staples, Susan Ehresman of Circle Pines, Michael (Terry) Scribner of Brainerd, and Steven (Loretta) Scribner of Staples; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Ken) Krause; 11 step grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Catherine; and brothers, Jay and Dick Scribner.
