Warren Frank Mara, Sr., 91, of Crosslake, MN, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Golden Horizons Assisted Living. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Crosslake Evangelical Free Church (The Log Church) in Crosslake. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion, Crosslake Post #500.
Warren was born August 11, 1922, in Chicago, IL, the son of Frank Francis and Mary (Pecha) Mara. He enlisted in the US Navy and served during WWII as a Quarter Master. He received both his Bachelor and Masters Degree from the University of Illinois. For 38 years he worked as a Systems Equipment Engineer for Lucent before he retired. In 1958, he married Adeline Baker. Adeline passed in 1998 and 2001 he married Ruth Ternberg.
Warren was a Mason for 63 years and a member of the West Suburban Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Marshalls and the Jenkins VFW. He enjoyed playing cards, watching television - especially games shows and Lawrence Welk. He was an avid reader.
He will be missed by his wife, Ruth; children, Warren, Jr,, Sandra, Judith, Marilyn, and Carolyn, all of Illinois; step-daughters, Nancy and Linda of Mankato, MN; grandchildren, Suzanne, Michael, John, Michael, Christina; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren; and step-greatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Adeline; and brothers Rollo and Darwin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Shriners Children Hospital (2025 East River Parkway - Mpls, MN 55414) of the Log Church Building Fund.
