Walter Rohl

April 4, 1923 — October 9, 2013

Walter D. Rohl, 90, of Pillager died at his home on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Services for Walter will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 12, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Motley with Pastor Larry Hager officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather from 5-7 PM Friday evening at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.

Walter was born on April 4, 1923 in Rail Prairie, MN to Walter and Edna (Burnstihl) Rohl. He graduated from Pillager High School. Walter served in WWII with the Red Bulls Division and he was also a member of the Masons and Eastern Star. He was employed by the State of Minnesota as a Wildlife Refuge Manager ending his career as the manager of the Carlos Avery Wildlife Refuge. He was a member of the Methodist Mens Club. He married Velma Arnold on November 28, 1946 and after her passing he married Florence Haffner-Bean. Walter was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing, and trapping. He loved the outdoors.

Walter is survived by his daughters, Gwentha Lumsden of Pillager, Ellen (Elroy) Noreen of Fort Ripley, MN, and Laurel (John) Park of Luck, WI; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; step-daughters, Beverly Bean, Audry Groshong, and Sharon Martin; sister, Lois Nicolos; many step-grandchildren; step-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives, Velma Arnold Rohl and Florence Haffner Bean Rohl.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
