Father, Teacher, Farmer, Logger, Merchant Marine, Soldier, Welder, Adventurer, Volunteer, Friend.
Proceeded in death by Wife, Emily Carol Dix, mother, father and 3 sisters.
Three children: Daniel Dix, Thomas Dix, Ruth Ann Kolling. Five Grand Children: Phillip Dix, Genevieve Collett, Lindsey Kolling, Austin Kolling, Ryan Kolling,
Child of immigrants from Poland, and mother widowed when he was young, he had many responsibilities beyond his age, caring for the small farm on the edge of Minneapolis. As a Teenager, he worked summers on a large farm near Alexandria, Minnesota.
Joined the Merchant Marines after graduating High School in Minneapolis.
Saw a great deal of military action while working in the engine room on the Liberty Ships that hauled men and materials across the treacherous North Atlantic for the liberation of Europe from the Nazis.
After the war he worked for a logging operation near the North Shore of Lake Superior before being drafted into the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952.
When discharged honorably he went to work for Minnegasco, now Centerpoint Energy for 36 years and then retired, first to his property in Backus, Minnesota and then to Sierra Vista, Arizona.
He was known as a good natured, kind, generous, man who volunteered his time and resources to help others. Also he was a lover of nature and the wild places of the earth. Further, he also enjoyed sharing those amazing places with others.
He is missed.
Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services.
