Walter M. Ausland, 93, of Pillager, MN went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 25 at his home. Services for Walter will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 3:00PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN with Pastor Hector Merced officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel. A reception will follow at Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room.
Walter was born on July 29, 1920 in Little Falls, MN to Melvin and Rose (DeRosier) Ausland. Walter joined the United States Army and was a World War II veteran. He married Etta Simons and they moved to Minneapolis in 1948. Walter worked as a roofing contractor for 17 years before going over the road trucking for 28 years. Walter retired in Pillager, MN and following Etta’s death Walter married Joan Maciosek on June 23, 2005 in Pillager, MN. Walter worked in Pillager at North Country Bait for many years. He enjoyed dancing, blue grass music, fishing and horses. Walter will be remembered for being a jokester.
Walter is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Don Ausland of Pillager, MN; Jim (Eileen) Ausland of Pillager, MN, Gordon (Delerie) Ausland of Pillager, MN, Kenneth Ausland of Pillager, MN, and Rosemary (Steve) Brown of Pillager, MN; brother, Marvin (MaryJane) Ausland of Brainerd, MN; step-children, Ronald Andrews of CA, Lorrane (Danny) Johnson of Pillager, MN, and Pam Andrews of CA; twenty-two grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Etta (Simons) Ausland; sisters, Helen and Eleanor; and grandson, Jeff. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
