Wally Evanson

Wally Evanson, age 77, of Nisswa passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Wally’s funeral service will be Monday, March 27, at 1 pm, at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. Visitation will be from 12-1 pm.

Wally was born on August 27, 1939 in Hatton, North Dakota, to Helen and Iver Evanson. He grew up in Fargo, where he graduated from Fargo Central. After high school, he continued to live in Fargo, where he met and married Darlene Odegaard, his wife of 55 years. Together, they raised three children, and became very involved in their school sport activities. In addition, he coached a fastpitch softball team for many years, where he led them to become the 1975 North Dakota State Champions. Weekend camping trips and winter snowmobiling were an integral part of the family’s time together. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. His love of golf and time spent at the cabin on Lake Maud with friends and family were just some of his fondest memories. Wally’s legendary storytelling ability is known by all who had the opportunity to know him. He often said he was tougher than a boiled owl, and he’s been known to wrestle alligators. He spent his entire career in sales, the last 17 years with Auto Trim Design and Glass, where he retired. His sales career is where he met many of his lifelong friends, who say he will be remembered by his charismatic humor and infectious laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; three children, Jeff Evanson, Terri Corbo, and Jason Evanson (Estelle Paulson); grandchildren, Brittney Corbo, Carly Fuller, Alexander, Taeana, and Nicholas Evanson; two sister, Joanne Schultz and Delphine Neubauer; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Evanson; and his brother, Richard Evanson. Services entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.

Visitation one hour prior to services. Inurnment is planned, at Lutheran Church of the Cross columbarium.
