Virginia Garnell Tiegen, age 87, died Wednesday, December 11, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at Northern Lakes Senior Living in Baxter. Funeral services will be at 2PM on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Swan Valley Lutheran Church in Leader. Sandy Knight will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Virginia was born on March 7, 1932 in McNeil, Arkansas to Coy and Ola (Miller) Burchfield. She graduated from Waldo High School and continued her education at Little Rock Baptist Nursing School. Virginia moved to California where she met and married, Robert “Bob” Tiegen, on December 26, 1954. She took great pride in making her home welcoming to all and caring for her six children. Virginia was a member of Swan Valley Lutheran Church and walked strongly in her faith. She was loving, spiritual, selfless, supportive, social, kind and sweet; Virginia will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert “Bob” Tiegen; children, Anita Embree of Baxter, Dinah (Glen) Sundberg of Baxter, Louisa Tiegen of Pequot Lakes, Eric (Laura) Tiegen of Houma, LA; sister, Laverne Atkinson of Magnolia, AK; grandchildren, Bo, Lisa, Jonathan, Spencer, James, Jesse; step-grandchildren, Stephan, Brandi, Nikki; nine great grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Stewart and Elliot “Lars” Tiegen; siblings, Carl, Raymond, Joe, Shirley, Linda, Thomas, Harvey.
Virginia’s family would like to thank Knute Neslon Home Care and Northern Lakes Senior Living Staff for their care, comfort and compassion for Virginia.
Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army or Alzheimer’s Foundation.
