Virgil "Brad" Bredemeier, 96, of Staples, MN passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples, MN. Services for Brad will be 11:00AM, Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, with Pastors Steve Sveom and Eugene Floistad officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment with Military Honors provided by Motley American Legion Post #124 at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples, MN.
Brad was born March 29, 1920 in Barnesville, MN to John and Bertha (Larson) Bredemeier. He graduated from Barnesville High School and then entered the US Navy Air Force. Brad attended college at the Illinois School of Optometry in Chicago, IL. He was united in marriage to Gladys (Peggy) Hildebrand on December 20, 1947 in Prairie Du Chien, WI. Brad started his optometric practice in Staples in 1949. Brad was a member of the American Optometric Association, Faith Lutheran Church, the Staples Motley Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, and the Masonic Lodge. He received the Staples Motley Area Community Foundation Chairman's Award in 2013 and served on the Staples City Council for over twenty years. Brad enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and time with family and friends.
Brad is survived by his wife, Peggy of Staples; children, Brenda (David Light Shields) Bredemeier of St. Louis, MO, Julie (Ryan) Jagim of Duluth, MN; grandchildren, Micah Light Shields and Maya Light Bredemeier, Andrew (Amanda) Burns, Alex (Jeannie) Burns, Andrew (Vanessa) Jagim, Ben Jagim, Eric (Katrina) Jagim; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bertha; and three brothers, Harold, Kenneth and Wallace. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
