Violet Myers

Violet Mardelle (Erickson) Myers, age 87, of Pequot Lakes, passed away peacefully at Senior Class Care, March 6, 2019 with her daughters at her side. Born on July 17, 1931 to Elmer and Stella (Olson) Erickson, she was the 5th of 10 children.

A devoted wife and loving mother, strong in her faith, and joyful in spirit, Violet had an angelic voice, loved singing, and now is singing among the angels in Heaven. She was clever, creative (her kids believe she was the Mother of Invention), sewing, drawing, traveling, volunteering at her home churches and living on Nelson Lake surrounded by wildlife and her siblings. Showing humility, she personified love, caring, compassion, grace, and acceptance.

Violet is survived by her husband of 68 years, John; daughters, Vicki Myers (Fred Nitsch) of Maryland, Carol Myers-Schmitz (Peter) of Illinois; son, John Myers (Linda) of Florida; grandchildren, Erika and Lauren Myers-Bromwell), Alyssa and JonPaul Mease; two great-grandchildren; sisters: Joyce, Alice, Dolly, Sandy and Darlene; brothers, Don and Ralph; and scores of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenny Erickson; and sister, Marlys (Erickson) Wall.

Having met her husband in 1950 in Washington, DC, they were married in John’s family church, Grace Lutheran in Westminster, MD. Throughout her husband’s career, they lived in Maryland, South Carolina, New Jersey, New York back again to Maryland, finally to happily retire in her hometown. She was ever grateful for the friendships developed with neighbors and with the various church members, as they were her family away from home. We are truly blessed by her life, smile and warmth and will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be at 9 am on Tuesday, March 12 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes, with a memorial service at 10 am, followed by a luncheon. Inurnment will be held in August.
