Violet Lillian (Gorman) Hancock, 94, of Brainerd, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Good Samaritan Village - Bethany. Family and friends are invited to gather from 3-6 PM, Tuesday, February 4 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. She will be interred next to her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
Violet was born March 22, 1919, in Turtle Creek Township, MN, the daughter of Louis Albert and Ella Mary (Denison) Gorman. In 1943, she married James R. Hancock. While Jim served in the military, the couple traveled throughout the country - visiting all but two states. The also served oversees and spent three years in Japan - a country whose culture captivated Violet. She was a proud member of the Lions Club and enjoyed volunteering. Violet liked to crochet and embroider - giving many afghans and doilies to her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time gardening and doing yard work. While living at Mississippi Terrace she would often be found working numerous puzzles.
She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and eight brothers and sisters.
