Viola Marie McGillivray Smith, 88, passed away December 26, 2007. She was born December 15, 1919 to Charles and Albie (Jahoda) Baxter. She married Archie McGillivray on April 15, 1936. She was a cook for most of her life and was famous for her sticky buns and pies which everyone looked forward to at holidays and special family functions. Viola also loved to fish and was always after that big one.
Archie died in 1972, and Viola moved shortly after that to Brainerd to be near her daughter, Arlene. She met and married George Smith in 1979. He died in 1987.
She is survived by her daughter, Arlene (Sherman) Swanson and Arlenes children, Debra Bollum, Sherry Bartylla, Jim (Julie) Bartylla, Susan (Mark) Renfrow, Bruce (Daryl Jean) Bartylla, Teresa (Tracy) Wetzstein, Scott (Mona) Bartylla, Sue (Tony) Roberts, and Deanne Churchill; her son, Jack (Beatrice) McGillivray and Jacks children, Dawn (Dean) Sorenson and Lee (Denise) McGillivray; 22 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her mother; her father; two sisters; one brother; and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services for Viola are at Park United Methodist Church at 2:30 PM, Saturday, December 29, 2007 with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at a later date at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
