Victor Elstad, 89, of Breezy Point, died Friday, May 25, 2007 at St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 31, at 1 pm, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes. Military Honors will be provided by the Pequot Lakes American Legion. Friends may visit at the church from 11-1. Services will be followed by cremation.
Victor Bernhard Elstad was born December 4, 1917 in Webster, to Ludwig and Olivia (Peterson) Elstad. He grew up in Webster and attended Scott County Public School. He graduated from Northfield High School in 1936, and went on to earn a BA from St. Olaf College in 1941. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1942 1945. Following his honorable discharge he attended graduate school at George Washington University, earning his MA in 1959. While in graduate school he was a member of Phi Epsilon Phi, Delta Chapter. Victor worked as a plant physiology researcher at the Smithsonian Institute for 26 years. He was united in marriage to Sheila Cooper October 27, 1976 in Sisseton, SD. The couple had their marriage blessed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes one month later. They have lived in Breezy Point for the past 30 years. Victor was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member of the Pequot Lakes American Legion and VFW.
Victor is survived by Sheila, his wife of 30 years; his children, Victor (Linda) Elstad, Jr., Sterling, VA, Mariette (Bernard) Cox, Fairfax, VA, and Leslie (Clark) Campbell, Chesapeake, VA; stepsons, Thomas (Sue) Davidson, Warminster, PA and Michael (Venecha) Davidson, Mt. Pleasant, SC; siblings, Evelyn Nordstrom, Breezy Point, Edna Bull, Minneapolis, Lorraine Allen, Las Vegas, NV, Norman (Marlene) Elstad, Alexandria, and Gordon (Edith) Elstad, Faribault; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His parents and a sister, Jeanette Morelan, preceded him in death.
