Victor Blasing

September 3, 1937 — April 10, 2009

Victor D. Blasing, age 71, of Motley, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at his home, on Friday, April 10, 2009. Services are planned for Tuesday, April 14, at 2:00 PM at the Motley Free Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. There will be a time for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Herman, MN on Saturday, April 18, at 11:00AM.

Victor was born on September 3, 1937, on a farm near Herman, MN, to Jacob Colbyand Emily (Allen) Blasing. Vic attended country school and farmed with his family. In 1961, Vic was drafted into the US Army and served for two years where he was a parachutist, attended ammunition demolition school, was involved in the Bay of Pigs invasion, and had top secret clearance. After returning from the service, Vic farmed with his father. Vic loved horses from a young age and raised pure bred Belgians, sheep, and cattle, while on the farm in Herman. On February 14, 1968 Vic married Cheryl Gamradt. Vic and Cheryl farmed together until May of 1984. They then moved to Townsend, Montana, to become ranchers, raising Belgian horses and cattle.

After several moves and changes in careers, Vic and Cheryl moved back to Motley, MN in 1998. Vic being semi-retired and needing something to occupy his time, he started working as a custodian for the Motley School District, ISD 2170. Later, Vic went fulltime with the school, but still helped out farmers in the Motley area by growing crops and raising livestock until his death. Vic was an all around handyman, and wherever he and Cheryl lived, friends and neighbors were often utilizing Vics vast knowledge as a part time mechanic, welder, and veterinarian. Vic was a member of the Logan Township Board, Norcross Coop Board, and the Pastor, Parish Relations Committee at the Methodist Church in Herman. One of Vics favorite hobbies was working with his Belgians. He participated in area parades and even hosted a gigantic field demonstration day of draft horses working the fields at his farm.

Vic is survived by his wife, Cheryl; sister, Shirley Ann (Roger) Peterson of Pease, MN; brothers, Waldon (Karen) Blasing of Frazee, MN, and Herschel Butch(Kathy) Blasing of Brainerd, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Victor was preceded in death by his parents.
