Vernon Hines

Vernon Hines, 91, of Randall died on Monday, May 13, 2013 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 11:00AM at St. James Catholic Church in Randall, MN with Father Jimmy Joseph officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Randall, MN on Sunday, May 19, 2013 and one hour prior to services at the church.

Vernon was born on September 27, 1921 in Darling Township to Frank and Lucy (Shontell) Hines. Vernon received his honorary high school diploma. He spent a year in (CCC) Civilian Conservation Corps. Vernon worked on the Hubbard Ranch in Yakima Valley, Washington before joining the Army. Vernon was a Sargent in the United States Army during WWII. He fought in the Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily and Naples-Foggia Battles. Vernon received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Three Overseas Service Bars, and a Lapel Pin. Vernon was also awarded the Bronze Star. Vernon married Eleanor Andres on June 8, 1946. After her death in 2001, Vernon married Helen Guck in 2003. Vernon loved to farm. He enjoyed hunting, and cutting wood. Vernon was a kind, friendly, and caring man. He loved spending time with his family, loved to watch boxing and westerns and was an ace pool player.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Valerie (Robert) Jeffries of Little Falls, MN, Patrick (Cynthia) Hines of Apple Valley, MN, Michael (Marlene) Hines of Randall, MN, David Hines of Brooklyn Park, MN, Joseph (Christa) Hines of North Pole, AK, Paul (Debra) Hines of Little Falls, MN, James (Pamela) Hines of Randall, MN, and Gerald (Linda) Hines of Long Prairie, MN; and 3 stepchildren, Ray, Roxi, and Rhonda; brothers, Bill Hines of Randall, MN and Elmer Hines of CA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eleanor; daughter, Mary; granddaughter, Angela Hines; brother, Clarence; and sisters, Verena and Evelyn.
