Verna Mae Hutchins, 80, of Crosslake, MN, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral Services for Verna will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake with Deacon Barry Olson officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather starting at 9:30 AM.
Verna was born January 23, 1932, in Collegeville, MN, the daughter of Pius and Barbara (Stich) Gillitzer. She moved to the St. Stephen area where she and her family farmed and later to Gilman. During the mid 1980s, she relocated to Crosslake.
Verna enjoyed flowers, gardening, and doing crossword puzzles. She also liked to work on many crafts, including: quilting, ceramics, and oil painting. She made many Christmas ornaments and Easter eggs. She also painted the blades of old saws. She was an active reader, enjoyed the outdoors and valued charity work. Verna was a member of the Crosslake American Legion, Post 500 Auxiliary.
Verna will be missed by her children, Mary Hutchins, of Crosslake, Connie (Jerry) Schauffler, of Stewart, Kevin Hutchins, of Crosslake, Sandi (Wayne) Juetten, of Ten Sleep, WY, Gloria (Bill) Jacobson, of Hackensack, Steve (Brenda) Hutchins, of Williston, ND, Patrick Hutchins, of Cambridge, Tim (Jeannette) Hutchins, of Pine River, Bob Hutchins, of Crosslake, and John (Connie) Hutchins, of Pine River; five step-children; three sisters, Delrose Fischer, Viola Dullinger, and Delores Newcomb; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one step-child; and several siblings.
