Verdell "Andy" Anderson

Verdell (Andy) Anderson peacefully passed away on July 10, 2024, at CentraCare hospital in St Cloud, surrounded by family.

He was born on November 7, 1949, to Ellsworth and Verda Anderson, in St Cloud, MN. 

After graduating from high school in Foley, MN, he enlisted in the Navy and served in Vietnam. Following an honorable discharge, he began his career in sales, first selling vacuum cleaners, then food to restaurants and finally automobiles. He was married to Barbara Wilkey and together they raised two sons, Scott and Steven.

He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and taught both his sons to hunt and fish. He could spend hours sitting by the campfire telling jokes. He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. During football season, Sundays centered around the Vikings game.

In 1997, he married Joan McPherson, and they enjoyed 27 years together spending time with family, enjoying their lake cabin, a month or two in Arizona, traveling, eating out and retirement.

He is survived by his wife Joan; sons, Scott and Steven (Andrea) Anderson; bonus daughter, Sara Poehler; grandson, Steven II; bonus grandchildren, Paige, Jake, Addison and Ximena; siblings, Marilyn Hendricks, Sam (Cheryl) Anderson, Janet (Bud) Burger, Virginia (Bob) Vizenor and Marcia (David) Brunn; nieces, nephews, cousins and Joan’s family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth and Verda Anderson; brother-in-law, Bob Hendricks; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Anderson.

A service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Pine River. Visitation will take place the hour before.
