Verda L. Messner, 83, of Brainerd, died Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Good Samaritan Village - Woodland Campus. Services will be held 2:30 PM Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Good Samaritan Village - Woodland 300 Chapel in Brainerd. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Baxter City Cemetery.
Verda was born December 27, 1931, in Alfsborg Township, MN, the daughter of Hilding Axel and Marion Esther (Hall) Hagg. She graduated from Winthrop High School before marrying Harvey Messner on November 24, 1951. The couple moved to the Twin Cities Area in 1960 and Verda began her 25-year career with Federal Cartridge in Anoka. They retired to the Brainerd Lakes Area in 1994. Verda was a strong person and constant self-starter. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren always brought her joy. She also enjoyed flowers - always working in the garden, crafts, and listening to music. She even played the piano. She liked to dance and travel, especially when they took a cruise.
She will be missed by her children, Debra (Clifford) Borden, of Merrifield, Dr. Daniel (Lois) Messner, of Lima, OH, and Darren (Kristy) Messner, of Belle Fourche, SD; sister, Vernita Messner; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; parents; and siblings: Virginia, Vincent, and Vergine.
