Vera Edith Petrie, 105, of Nisswa died on February 18, 2013 at Good Samaritan Village in Pine River, MN. Services for Vera will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11:00AM at The Lutheran Church of the Cross, Nisswa, MN with Rev. Andy Smith officiating. Vera was born on April 5, 1907 in Blackduck, MN to Lee and Nellie (Schwaab) French. She was raised in Blackduck, MN along with her 2 sisters, Lea ("Popsy"), and Eva. Both sisters preceded her in death.

Vera moved to Minneapolis after high school graduation and attended Business College. She met and married Eugene D. Petrie on June 2nd, 1928. Vera and Gene had 2 children, Gene Lee and Richard Daniel. Richard went to live with God when he was just 6 weeks old.

In the years that followed, Vera made a small business out of her first love, decorative painting. She published a book of instructions and patterns and taught many classes. She was painting right up to her passing.

She played golf until her late 80‘s and watched any sporting event she could tune in on TV. She especially loved football, baseball, and basketball and most people learned never to call her during televised games. She loved to travel and she and Gene made many trips together. She spent 10 winters with her son, Gene and daughter-in-law, Jean in Winter Haven, Florida and enjoyed the summers at her home on Nisswa Lake in Minnesota. She maintained her sense of humor throughout her life.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; son, Richard; parents, Lee and Nellie; and her sisters. She is survived by her son, Gene (Jean); grandchildren, Ken (Pattie), Greg (Svetlana), and Dan (Cindee); and 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel Pequot Lakes, MN.
