Vera R. Dennehey, 98, of Staples passed away on Friday, November 21, 2008 at the Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples.

A service will be held on Monday, December 1, 2008, at 11:00, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, with Rev. Wesley Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Vera Rose Dennehey was born on January 30, 1910 in Wheaton, Minnesota to Henry and Rosa (Templin) Proebstle. The family moved to Staples from Cass Lake, Minnesota in 1924 where Vera graduated from high school in 1928. She started her nursing education at Wesley Hospital in Wadena and graduated with a Registered Nursing degree from the University of Minnesota in 1932. She worked as an RN in Staples doing private service and hospital nursing and served as Administrator of the Staples Municipal Hospital from 1952-57.

She married Thomas H. Dennehey on January 30, 1943 in Alexandria, Louisiana prior to his shipping out to Europe where he served in the Central European Theatre. A son, Michael, was born on Christmas Eve of 1943. Vera has been a lifetime member of the Staples United Methodist Church.

Vera is survived by her son, Michael (Patricia) Dennehey of Arlington Heights, IL; grandson Timothy, (Barbara) Dennehey of Cary, IL and great granddaughters Hannah and Sara Dennehey; niece, Susan Farrell of Cross Lake, MN; and nephews, John Proebstle of Warren, PA, James Proebstle of Barrington, IL, Richard Proebstle of Massillon, OH, Robert Proebstle of North Oaks, MN and Jack Proebstle of Eden Prairie, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Leonard and Roy (Curly), sister Verna (Morrow) and granddaughter Kristine Dennehey. Brenny Funeral Chapel 218-894-1910
