Velma Ellingson

Velma W. Ellingson, 93, of St. Peter, MN, formerly of Crosslake, MN and Frost, MN, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, MN with Pastor Greg Larsen officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services. Private interment will take place in Ellendale, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crosslake Lutheran Church or Alzheimer's Association.

Velma was born February 6, 1919, in Elgin, MN, the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Rice) Weber. Following high school, Velma graduated from Winona State Teachers College. She was united in marriage to John R. Ellingson in 1943. She continued her education and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1966 and also did graduate studies. She first taught in a one room school house near Elgin, then in Marietta, MN and finally in Frost, MN. The couple retired to the Crosslake Area in 1975. Velma was a member of Crosslake Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir. She loved music, enjoyed golf and belonged to the Whitefish Golf Club. She was also a member of the Crosslake Game and Fish Club. Every Tuesday she could be found playing Bridge and in her later years, 500 and cribbage at the Crosslake Community Center.

She was loved dearly and will be missed by her son Gary (Jane) Ellingson, of NorthMankato, MN; daughter, Jayne (Tom) Skiba, of Ramsey, MN; and five grandchildren, Jana and Emily Ellingson, Randy, Jennifer, and Rob Skiba. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; a stillborn daughter; and her brothers, Dwight, Cleve, and Glenn Weber.
