Vaughn Schlapkohl, age 81, of Pine River, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was born to Edwin and Fern Schlapkohl on July 13, 1933, in Muscatine, IA. Vaughn served in the U.S. Army and Air Force Reserves, was a former Timothy Township Supervisor and drove school bus for the Pine River-Backus schools. He was a self-employed farmer and welder who was very skilled at welding and fixed many things for many people.
Vaughn is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons: Craig (Betty), Mitch (Denise); daughter, Mona O'Brien (Mike); sisters: Jeannette Ingberg, Janice Stein (Al); grandchildren: Debbie (Ed IV), David, Jolene (Matt), Doug, Kelsey, Eileen; great grandchildren: Eddie, Ethan, Molly and Emma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Audrey Avesing; and brother-in-law, George.
Services will be 11 AM on Saturday, April 11 at Faith Lutheran Church, Swanburg. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
