Tom Morton, age 69, died Sunday, July 30 at St. Josephs Medical Center.
He was born August 7, 1936 in Louisville, KY. Tom graduated in 1954 from O'Keefe High School in Atlanta. After two years in the Marines he attended Yankton College in Yankton, SD. He graduated in 1962. He married Jan Dannenbring in Chamberlain, SD in 1959. Tom taught elementary PE for seven years in Jefferson County, CO. He got his MA in ED from Northern Colorado University in 1969. In 1969 they moved to Brainerd where Tom served as high school, and later middle school, counselor until his retirement in 1998.

Tom was an active member of the First Congregational UCC in Brainerd, a member of American Legion and a Mason. Tom was first chairman of the Kinship board and served for 10 years. He also was board member of the PFLAG, volunteered at St. Joseph's Medical Center and for Habitat for Humanity. He loved playing tennis, hunting and traveling.

Tom is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Jan; his daughter, Rebecca (John) Vecchione, of Falls Church, VA; son, Ken (Beth) Morton, of West Des Moines, IA; sister Carol Young, of Monroe, NC; and grandsons, Sam and Luke Morton and Joe and Tommy Vecchione. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 8 at 11:00 AM, at the First Congregation UCC in Brainerd. There will be a visitation Monday, August 7 from 5 to 7 PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials are preferred to First Congregation UCC, Habitat for Humanity or Kinship Partners.

Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
