Timothy Lee Jay, age 46, of Staples, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2007. A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, April 3 at 3:00PM at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples with Pastor Roy Miles officiating. There will be a visitation on Monday evening from 4-7 as well as one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at evergreen Hill Cemetery. Tim was born on June 29, 1960 to Ed and Betty Jay in Wadena, MN. He grew up in the Staples/Motley area. In 1976 his family moved to Moses Lake, WA. In 1979 Tim graduated from the Piney Point Maritime Academy in Maryland. He was employed as a Merchant Seaman on the Great Lakes, for American Sands Shipping from 1979-1983. In 1984 he was self-employed with his brother, hauling wood and other various jobs until 1987. In 1987 he enrolled in the machinist program at Staples Vo-Tech. He worked at Woodland Container from 1988 to 1994. He then worked at Home Crest for two seasons 1994 and 1995 before moving on to Verndale Truss. In 2002 Tim began working as a roofer and in 2006 went to work at Industrial Finishing Service in Deer Creek, where he was employed at the time of his death. Tim loved spending time with his family & friends. He enjoyed cooking; especially grilling, which he did year round. He also liked camping, fishing & other outdoor activities. While at home Tim was a constant reader of non-fiction crime stories. He also liked to play cribbage and other card games. He loved to party and gambling was one of his favorite past times. Tim is survived by his children: Tim Jay Jr., Tom Jay, Scott Jay, and Lexi Randall; siblings Kenny Jay, Bill Jay, Becky (Gary) Nolan, Ed (Mary) Jay, and Barb (Dan) Simon; 4 grandchildren; 8 nephews; 7 nieces; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Betty; and brother, Tommy.
