Tillie Theresa (Wiese) Rice, age 99, of Nisswa, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014. She was born December 11, 1914, to Louis and Edith (Clemens) Wiese at the family homestead north of Mullen, NE, the fourth of twelve children. Tillie graduated from Mullen High School in 1933, then attended Normal Training at Chadron, NE. She taught in Hooker County Country Schools until marrying Sidney Rice on May 1, 1938, in Alliance, NE. They worked at Big Creek Ranch until 1948, when they moved to southern Minnesota, then to Pequot Lakes in 1954, where they farmed. While living in Pequot Lakes, Tillie worked at Driftwood Resort and Torske's Café and was a member of the Good Will Club. In 1970, they moved back to Nebraska to manage Big Creek Ranch. Sid retired in 1978 and they moved to Mullen, NE, where Tillie operated a daycare. Due to health issues she moved to Remer, MN, to live with her son Donnie's family, and in October 2013, moved into Senior Class Care in Nisswa.
Tillie is survived by her sons: Leo (Karen) of Wickenburg, AZ, Jim (Charlene) of Pequot Lakes, Bob of Pine River; brother, Barney Wiese of Pine River; sisters-in-law: Janet Wiese of Pine River, Grace Wiese of Mullen, NE; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Lee and Donnie; 6 brothers; 4 sisters; and one grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shriner's Hospital for Children, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes, or United Methodist Church, Mullen, NE.
Services will be 11 AM on Friday, October 3, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes, and one hour prior to services at the church. Services in Nebraska will be 11 AM (Mountain Daylight Time) on Monday, Oct. 6, at United Methodist Church in Mullen. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 7 PM (MDT) at Mullen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery, Mullen. Arrangements Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes.
