Thorvald Sorensen

Thorvald Emil Sorensen, age 69, of Lake Shore, died Dec. 16, 2005, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis after a courageous struggle with heart disease. A Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Friends may call beginning at 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Thor was born on Jan. 9, 1936, in Isle, MN, the son of Thorvald E. and Olive M. (Jones) Sorensen. He grew up in the Nisswa/Lake Shore area and attended area schools. After his schooling he joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1954-1958.

He raised four sons and was employed by Gresen Corporation, retiring in 1998 after 35 years of service to the company. Upon retirement, he returned to the Nisswa area and enjoyed many years of playing cribbage, hunting, gardening, reading, chopping wood, chasing grandkids, calling Bingo at the Nisswa American Legion, and auctioning. He spent hours tinkering in his woodshop, ironing for his wife, building fires, and teaching his children and grandchildren about the great outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Rita of Lake Shore; sons Glenn (Nancie) Link of Cottage Grove, Charles (Dawn) Link of Columbia Heights, Randall (Ann) Sorensen of Ruston, Louisiana, and Andrew (Melissa) Sorensen of Independence; daughters, Holly (Chad) Pringle of Sartell, and Jennifer Sandberg of Denver, CO; brothers David Sorensen of Virginia, and Herman Sorensen of California; sisters, Barbara Sorensen of Burnsville, and Eleanor Bausell of Chapmansboro, TN. He will also be deeply missed by his twelve grandchildren, Charles, Christopher, Brian, Melissa, Joseph, Joshua, Erica, Lukas, Emma, Ryan, Alexandra, and Dylan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thorvald and Olive; brother, Lars; and sisters, Loretta and Carolyn.
