Thomas Virnig

Thomas George Virnig, MD age 29, of St. Paul, formerly of Hillman, MN died February 11, 2005 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Monday, Feb. 14, at Holy Family Parish, Bull Dog Lake with Father Paul Fruth officiating. Visitation is from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and for one hour prior to services at the Church on Monday.
Dr. Thomas George Virnig was born on November 4, 1975, in Little Falls, MN, the son of Adam and Lorraine (Schlegel) Virnig. He was called from this life early Friday morning, Feb. 11, 2005, at his home in St. Paul at the age of 29. Tom grew up near Hillman, MN, and graduated from Onamia High School. He went on to attend the University of Minnesota Medical School receiving his Doctor of Medicine Degree on December 18, 2004. On April 28, 2004, he was united in marriage to Becky Koshnick at St. Matthew?s Church in St. Paul. The couple made their home in St. Paul while both were attending medical school. Tom enjoyed a great number of things including playing baseball, football, and basketball. He loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing, hiking and skiing in the mountains, golfing and traveling, and being able spend time with his nieces and nephews, family and friends. Tom also enjoyed being a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and loved being a medical student. He was greatly admired by all those whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and a special aunt, Pat Miers, who was diagnosed with cancer at the same time as Tom. Tom is dearly loved and mourned in passing by his wife, Becky of St. Paul; parents, Adam and Lorraine Virnig of Hillman; sisters and brother, Gwen (James) Rye of Mesquite, NV, Karen (Doug) Hanes of Eagan, Kim (John) Sundberg of St. Paul, Karla (Brent) Vasquez of Andover, and Rick (Carrie) Virnig of St. Cloud; Godson, Benjamin Thomas Virnig, and the rest of his nieces and nephews; and a great-niece; mother and father-in-law Loxley and Bob Koshnick of Detroit Lakes and their parents; brother-in-law, Nick Koshnick of Palo Alto, CA.
