Thomas J. Trana, age 83, of Staples, passed away at the Lakewood Hospital, on Wednesday, August 22. Services will be held on Monday, August 27, at 11:00, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, at the church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery.
Tom was born on November 13, 1928, in Staples, MN, to Thomas and Essie (Hubbard) Trana. While in High School, Tom went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad. After graduation he was united in marriage to Barbara Modrow. He enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. Upon returning from the military, he went back to work for the railroad, retiring with 45 years, in 1990. He also served on the Staples Fire Department for 30 years. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Tom is survived by his sons, Kim, of Staples, Thomas(Kathleen), of Motley, and Dennis (Mona) of Staples; daughters, Amber (Dale) Bartylla, of Hewitt and Debra (Clyde) Mertens, of Staples; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Sally Ross and Dorothy Trana; brother-in-law, Mike Reger; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; sisters, Erma, Lila, Gloria, and Janice; and brothers, Henry, Norman, and Clinton.
