Thomas Lowry

December 1, 1931 — October 10, 2016

Thomas Franklin Lowry "Tom" of Bucyrus, KS, passed away suddenly in Bismarck, ND, on October 10, 2016. He was born December 1, 1931, in Jamestown, ND, to Henry and Ruth Lowry. Tom graduated from Laurel High School in Laurel, MT, and then went to Wessington Springs College in Wessington Springs, SD, where he earned an AA degree. Tom earned a BA in Religion from Northwest Nazarene College, Nampa, ID; a MA in counseling from Bemidji State College, Bemidji, MN; PHD in counseling from University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND.

Tom and his wife, Ethel, pastored in Wyoming, Idaho, Minnesota and North Dakota. They were also missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in Malawi and Kenya, Africa. Tom had a counseling practice in Bismarck for several years.

Tom was a godly, loving husband and father, a faithful pastor and missionary. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, both here in the US and in Africa.

Tom is survived by his wife, Ethel; daughters, Genice (David) Cone, Cheryl (Michael) Fetting; son, Dwight (Pamela) Lowry; grandchildren: Byron, Rebekah, Glenn Edward, and Nathan Gilreath, Rachel and Andrew Fetting; brother, Steve (Coral) Lowry; son-in-law, Glenn Gilreath; and our African family in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya and other countries and many friends around the US, especially in Backus, MN, Bismarck, ND, and Kansas City area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruth Lowry and sister, Patricia.

A Memorial Fund has been established for Bibles and other critical needs in Africa and may be sent to Holiness Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 457, Stilwell, KS 66085.


A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, November 12, at Holiness Church of the Nazarene, Stilwell, KS. A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 15, at the Church of the Nazarene in Backus, MN. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Backus.
