Thomas Ebnet

Thomas Ebnet, age 67, of Nisswa, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the St. Cloud V.A. Hospital. He was born to Roman and Sophia Ebnet on November 20, 1942, in Minneapolis.

Tom was a Navy veteran and served as an Electrician's Mate 3rd class aboard the Navy Icebreaker USS Glacier AGB-4, Operation Deepfreeze 1961-63. He participated in the 1962 35,000-mile Antarctica round the world Scientific Geographical Exploration Research Cruise circumnavigating the globe. Tom has been Treasurer for the USS Glacier Reunion Association for the past ten years and will be greatly missed by all of his shipmates. Along with the USS Glacier Association, he was also a member of the USS Glacier Society volunteer restoration crew and was a member of the Pequot Lakes American Legion. Tom was appointed to the Thirty Lakes Watershed District Board of Managers in May of 1995. During his years on the board, he held every office including Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and served as President from 2005 to 2009. He also served two terms as President of the State MAWD. Tom served as a liaison between the state and local levels concerning issues affecting Watershed Districts. Tom also spoke at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's "Minnesota Air, Water and Waste Environmental Conference" and a Well Drillers Conference, making them aware of the effect that chemicals used in drilling has on the lakes. He was instrumental in having the Thirty Lake Watershed District host the 2005 Summer Tour of the Minnesota Association of Watershed Districts.

Tom is survived by his mother, Sophia; children: Kathryn Ebnet of South Carolina, Theodore Ebnet (Kim) of Minnesota, Patrick Ebnet (Kelli) of Minnesota, Paula Ebnet of Maryland, Mary Beth Ebnet of Maryland, Benjamin Ebnet of Texas, Barbara Trosper (Peter) of Washington, Rose Henderson (Josh) of South Dakota, Andrea Gilotte (Phil) of Minnesota, Joan Ebnet of Wisconsin; grandchildren: Hunter, Dalton, Kaylene, Joel, Cydney, Joseph, Shane, Wyatt, Alxis; brothers: Kenneth (Ardis), Gene, Bruce, Brian, Michael (Amy), Dennis (Susan); sisters: Mary Alyce Bruder (Jim), Ann Filla (Bill).

He was preceded in death by an infant son, John; father, Roman; sister-in-law, Sharon; and grandparents.

Services will be 11 AM on Friday, January 22, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, Nisswa. Visitation will be Thursday from 5to 8 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes and one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery, Camp Ripley at a later date.
