Sylvia Selvey

Sylvia H. Selvey, age 97, of Staples, passed away early Thursday morning at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 24, at the Staples Christian Mission Alliance Church. Friends and relatives are invited to gather beginning at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Church. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Verndale.

Sylvia Harminnie Selvey was born on February 6, 1913, in South Dakota, the daughter of Harm and Anna ( Harms ) Korfe. On February 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Franklin Selvey. Among the things she enjoyed were quilting, cooking, and was a volunteer driver for Todd County Social Services. Besides teaching Sunday School, Sylvia was an excellent cook and her family remembers her excellent gravy and baking great buns.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harm and Anna Korfe; daughter, Deborah Race; brothers, Wesley and Raymond Korfe; sisters, Margaret Yunker, Theresa Riffle, and Anna Russell. Sylvia will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 years, Franklin; children, Eunice (Bud) Bergquist of Verndale, MN, Ronald (Donna) Selvey of Staples, Franklin (Genie) Selvey of St. Peter, MN, and Naomi (Steve) Grow of Moorhead, MN; 15 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brothers, John (Irene) Korfe, Alfred " Bud" (Irene) Korfe, and Clarence (Lois) Korfe; sisters, Luella Pankratz, Jean Bolstad, and Irene (Eldon) Cole.
