Steven Lee Furan, 66, of Crosslake, Minnesota, passed away from complications of multiple sclerosis surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, January 26, 2017. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at The Log Church, 37218 County Road 66, Crosslake, Minnesota 56442. Pastor Mark Holmen will be officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, February 3, 2017 at Brenny Funeral Chapel, 13782 County Road 36, Crosslake, Minnesota.
Steven was born August 18, 1950 in Fargo, North Dakota to Maynard and Betty (Fosteson) Furan. As a boy, he loved building and launching rockets with his brother Bruce, playing baseball on summer days, and going on long bike rides to the lakes. He graduated from Wadena Senior High School in 1968. He worked for the United States Postal Service until his early retirement in 1993. On June 10, 1972, he married Joyce Marie Halaas in Wadena, Minnesota. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and being “up north”. He was an avid cribbage and card player, and had a passion for music, playing the guitar and singing his favorite tunes. He especially enjoyed holiday gatherings and sharing dinners with friends and family.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Furan of Fargo, North Dakota; brothers, Charles Furan of Jamestown, North Dakota and Alan Furan of Blaine, Minnesota; three children, Todd Furan and his wife Deanne of Crosslake, Minnesota, Kristin Furan-Kriesel and her husband Blaine of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Kimberly Blank and her husband Michael of Fergus Falls, MN; eight grandchildren; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Maynard Furan, and brothers David Furan and Bruce Furan. Steven will be remembered by all who knew him as a compassionate and fun-loving man who brought joy and laughter to many. Services entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
