Steve Schluender, 55, of rural Pillager, died Friday January 2, 2009 at his home in Sylvan Township. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday January 7, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Rev Steve Sveom officiating. The relatives will receive friends from 5 till 7 PM on Tuesday at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
Steve Schluender is survived by his wife, Wendy; mother, Darlene Ibler, of Little Falls; two sons, Alex (Nicohle) Schluender, of Mpls and Grant Schluender, of Denver; one daughter, Sarah Schluender, of St Paul; one brother, Mike Schluender, of River Falls, WI; one sister, Barb (Denny) Fjeld, of Little Falls; one granddaughter, Adeline Schluender; and his pet lab, Hattie B. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence.
Steve was born on August 24, 1953 in Alexandria, son of Lawrence and Darlene Schluender. He was raised in Osakis and graduated from Osakis High School. He obtained his Bachelors Degree from Bemidji State. He was a heavy equipment operator and worked for several construction companies. He loved his family and granddaughter. He worked at Central Lakes College Staples Campus as a Heavy Equipment Instructor for 26 years until his retirement in August of 2008. He enjoyed motorcycling, camping, ice fishing, traveling and reading.
