Stanley Sumey

Stanley Sumey, age 83, of Staples, passed away at the Lakewood Health System Hospital on Friday, December 26, 2008. A funeral mass will be Monday, December 29, at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Fr. Scott Wittkop officiating. The Wake will be Sunday afternoon from 2-4 at the Brenny Funeral Home with Parish Prayers at 3:30. Burial will be in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples. Stan was born on April 21, 1925 in rural Todd County to George and Myrtle (Carson) Sumey. On August 31, 1943, Stan was united in marriage to Cleone Oldenburg in Motley, MN. Together they farmed and raised three children. Stan was a member of St. Isadores Catholic Church in Moran, was a former Todd County Commissioner, and served on many boards and committees. He loved sharing coffee with friends, sometimes driving many miles to get there, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Stan is survived by his wife, Cleone; children, Karen (Ken) Hudalla of Rice, Sheila (Jerry) Rutten of Sauk Center, and Jeff (Deb) Sumey of Browerville; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, June Noska; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mayme Forsblad.
