Sophie Hoever

April 3, 1911 — October 26, 2008

Sophie Van Hoever, age 97, formerly of Randall, passed away late Sunday evening at St. Ottos Care Center in Little Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 1, 2008, at St. James Catholic Church in Randall. Wake services will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday with Rosary at 7:30 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Randall. Friends may also call for one hour prior to services at church on Saturday. Interment will be in the St. James Catholic Church Cemetery.
Sophie Katherine Van Hoever was born on April 3, 1911, in Darling Township, Morrison County, MN, the daughter of Herman and Victoria (Hines) Schmidt. She grew up on the family farm near Randall and attended country school there. On January 7, 1936, she was united in marriage to Roy Van Hoever in Randall. To this union 3 daughters were born. Sophie and Roy were able to share 47 years of marriage before he died in 1983. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially her chocolate cake with special fudge frosting. But the love of her life was her family. She was always willing to lend a helping hand when they needed her. She also enjoyed fishing, as long as it was from shore. Sophie was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Randall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Victoria; sisters, Sara Johnson, Tillie LaMusga and Mae Radimecky; brothers, Peter, Leo, and Frank Schmidt; and several brothers-in-law. Sophie will be lovingly missed by her daughters, Joyce (Don) Volner of Brainerd, Joan (Tom) Whalen of Little Falls, and Donna (Garry) Cyrus of Staples; grandchildren, Donald (Barb) Volner, Darrel Volner, Kimberly (Bret) Strange, Kristin (Rod) Glenn, Scott (Terry) Peterschick, Shawn (Becky) Peterschick, Shane (Julie) Peterschick, Mark (Melanie) Wonders, and Sheila (Kevin) Young; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great, great grandchildren; a sister, Madeline Perkins of Staples; sisters-in-law, Martha Kominek of Browerville and Opal Brooks of Huron, SD; brother-in-law, Alex Kurowski; also many nieces and nephews.
