Sidney Jarvis Walker, 74, of Pequot Lakes, MN, died at his home Sunday, September 4, 2011. Funeral Services for Sid will be held at 3 PM, Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Crosslake Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry Quanbeck officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather Wednesday evening from 5-7 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Sid was born May 2, 1937, in Newton, NC, the son of Coleman and Verna (Jarvis) Walker. After school, Sid was hired in 1956 by Capital Airlines and worked in New York City. Sid later returned to his home state and worked for Capital in Charlotte. He then transferred with Capital to Minneapolis/St. Paul and continued his career working in airline reservations which later became United Air Lines. Sid became friends with fellow employees, Warren Phillips and Bob Daniels in a start-up of a new travel agency in Excelsior, MN, Main Line Travel (MLT). Sid became MLT's charter and group sales coordinator. With much success, MLT became a start-up partner with Sun Country Airlines. After a successful career and the sale of MLT, Sid moved north to his favorite retreat on Whitefish Chain and built his dream home. Sid continued his group sales vacation business until his death. Sid loved the North Woods and made many trips to the Boundary Waters, Mexico, Jamaica and the Caribbean
Sid married Linda Sjodin on October 21, 1989 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He enjoyed softball, baseball especially following and cheering for his team - the North Carolina Tar Heels. He was avid gardener and loved spending time on the water. Sid was a member of the Crosslake Lutheran Church, Crosslake Lions Club, and the Clamshell Lake Landowners Association.
Sid will be greatly missed by his wife, Linda, daughter Sue (Rob) Walker Erickson, of Edina; sons, Scott (Toni) Walker, of St. Petersburg, FL and Steve (Kim) Walker, of Henderson, FL; step-son, Sven (Melinda) Sjodin, of Simi Valley, CA; and five sisters from North Carolina; Mary Billings, Ava Conley , Louise Adderholdt, Barbara Hastings and Sharon Hendrix and his many grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Larry and Howard Walker and his step-daughter Dru Sjodin.
