Shirley Young

Shirley Ann ( Hoffmeister) Young passed away October 25, 2014, in Proctor, Minnesota, at the age of 79. She was born September 30, 1935, in St. James, MO, to Fred and Amie (Hendrix) Hoffmeister.


Shirley attended St. James schools with the class of 1953. She was united in marriage to Kenneth A. Young. To this union two children were born. Shirley was, for the most part, a stay at home mom, but did work at the Leader Journal as a proof reader back in the 1970's. She also worked at Dillion's store while she was in high school. After Kenneth's retirement, Shirley and Ken enjoyed time in their motorhome with friends. In 2007 they moved to Minnesota - a place they both felt was their second home.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, and her parents. She is survived by one daughter, Nilah Abbott, and one son, Mark Young, both of Minnesota. Shirley is also survived by two grandchildren, Delaney Young Anderson and Derek Young, and four great grandchildren.

No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to: Diamond Willow, Arbor Rose Memory Care Unit, 915 Old Highway 2, Proctor, MN 55810.
