Shirley Wiese, age 85, of Pequot Lakes, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Heritage House in Pequot Lakes. She was born March 3, 1926, in Thompson Falls, MT, to Alexander and Ruth Allan. The family moved to Nebraska when Shirley was a young girl. The Allan family, along with the Wiese family, moved from Nebraska to Minnesota in 1935. Shirley attended Pine River High School, graduating in 1944. On September 29, 1945, she married Eldon (Barney) Wiese at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker. She was a ranch wife for 65 years and enjoyed cooking for the ranch hands, guests and everyone who came to their annual bull sale. She won many awards for her pies, bread and other baked goods. She also enjoyed gardening, was a 4-H leader for many years and a charter member of the Minnesota Cowbells.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 65 years, Eldon (Barney); children: Jeanette Smith (Jerry), Richard Wiese (Shirley), Danny Wiese (Susan), Julie Schermann (Steve); sister, Ida Doering; twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bob and Jim; sisters, Ruth Buchanan, Margaret Liddell, and Laura Olson.
Services will be 1 PM on Monday, March 21, at Maple Hill Lutheran Church, rural Pine River, with Pastor Mel Nefstead officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Pine River. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to services at the church.
