Shirley Riel

Shirley Jean Riel, 95, of Crosslake, MN, formally of Hopkins, MN passed away on February 10, 2024, in Crosslake. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday May 6, 2024 from 12:00pm - 4:00pm at the Bloomington VFW Post #1296 (311 W. 84th Street, Bloomington, MN 55420). Lunch will be served. 

She was born in Davenport, IA to Theodore and Leila (Kruempel) Hembd on October 24, 1928. She was the youngest of 6 children and grew up in South Minneapolis. Shirley graduated from Roosevelt High School, and married Dean Rockman. She worked as a receptionist for several businesses in the Twin Cities area. In 1984, Shirley married Henry Riel.

Shirley made many beautiful pieces with her skills as an avid sewer. She enjoyed collecting dolls, singing in choirs, tending to her beautiful flower gardens, and bird watching. 

She is survived by her children Randean Rockman, Laurie (Dave) Rockman Krolick, and Paul (Gina) Rockman, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Henry, and her siblings Virginia, Lowell, Thomas, Roy, and Joseph.

Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Crosslake.
