Shirley Prange, 75, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2013, having lost her battle with lung cancer. A graveside ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, 2:00 PM at Foster Cemetery in Onamia, MN. Officiated by Pastor Joe Boeringa. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception will be held at the Onamia Vets Club where members of the American Legion Auxiliary will provide coffee and desserts.
Shirley was born on July 24, 1937 to Arthur and Myrtle (Slater) Petrin of Onamia, where she grew up. She attended Onamia High School, graduating with the class of 1955. She was married to Bryde E. Bates of Milaca, MN and subsequently moved to Washoe Valley, NV. Shirley and Bryde divorced and she took on the task of raising her six children alone. After the kids had grown, she moved back to Minnesota where she met and married Roger Prange of Onamia. They enjoyed twenty years together until his unexpected death in February 2012. Shirley was involved in the lives of her children through their daily conversations, which were filled with a great deal of laughter. She loved to work in her garden and always made sure the birds in her yard were well fed. She had a passion for jigsaw puzzles and spent many hours with family and friends at the puzzle table. Shirley was liked by everyone, possibly because she was a caregiver at heart and had a soft spot for the underdogs of the world. She is, and is, truly loved by her family and friends and her passing will touch the lives of many.
Shirley is survived by her children, RaAnne Petrin of Onamia, MN, Cindy (Tom) Moreno of Virginia Beach, VA, Cathy (Bill) Macaulay of Reno, NV, Carol (Mitch) Peroddy of Onamia, MN, Bryde A. (Diane) Bates of Reno, NV, Brett (Gina) Bates of Reno, NV; brother, Keith Petrin of Onamia, MN; sister, Karen (Terry) Lundeby of Onamia, MN; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dolores Krohne; brothers, Duane Petrin, Bill Petrin; and husband Roger Prange.
The Family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Onamia Hospital staff for their caring support and kindness as they went out of their way to make them as comfortable as possible.
