Shirley R. Marohn, age 79, of Motley passed away Monday morning, January 28, 2008, at Lakewood Health Systems in Staples. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Motley. Interment will be in the Motley Public Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples and for one hour prior to Services at the Church on Thursday.
Shirley Rose Marohn was born on September 3, 1928, in Staples, MN, the daughter of J.K. and Mollie (Kaeding) Markfelder. She grew up in the Staples area graduating from Staples High School in 1946. After her schooling she moved to the Cities and worked for Montgomery Ward and Western Electric. On April16, 1949, she was united in marriage to Harvey Marohn, to this union a son, David, was born. Shirley and Harvey were able to share over 58 years of marriage together. After their marriage Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed going camping, in 49 of the 50 states, fishing, and was an avid reader. Snowmobile cakewas her specialty but she was known as an awesome cook and never let anyone leave her home hungry. Eagles were fascinating to her and had a golden eagle on her house for many years. Shirley was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and was active in many of its organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Joan Resch; and a brother, Dennis Markfelder. Shirley will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Harvey; son David (Debra) Marohn of Cedar, MN; granddaughter, Amanda Marohn of Cedar, MN; and brother, Boyd Markfelder of Richland, Washington.
