Shirley Nolte Hild, 69, of Pequot Lakes, died Friday, October 16, 2009, at her home. A celebration of Shirleys life will be held at a later date.
Shirley was born July 24, 1940 in Blue Earth, MN, the daughter of Gerald and Leona (Maday) Nolte. After graduating high school in Charles City, IA, she attended the University of Iowa for a year. In 1958, she married John PepperHild. The couple stayed in Iowa for a short time before moving to Minnesota. For most of her life Shirley worked in the dental field completing her A.A. in Dental Assisting, in 1974 at Normandale College. She began her career as a dental assistant and progressed to an instructor and program director to Dental Assisting Programs. In 1977 she received her B.S. in Dental Assisting Education from the University of Minnesota and in 1983 she received her M.B.A., in Health Care Management from the University of St. Thomas. She was a board member of the Minnesota Board of Dentistry in the early 1990s. Shirley also worked on several committees for the American and Minnesota Dental Assisting Associations as well as writing curriculum and presenting workshops on program development. Pepper and Shirley lived in south Minneapolis for 27 years before retiring to their lake home in the Brainerd Lakes Area. From 1996 2007 she served on the board of the Cullen Lakes Association.
Shirley was an avid quilter, reader, and gardener. Family was important to Shirley. In addition to raising her and Johns four children, Shirley was also a proud grandmother of 10 and a mother of four shih-tzus.
Shirley will be missed by her husband, John; her children, Danielle (Matthew) Hecker, of Lincoln, NE, John (Marguerite) Hild, of Maraga, CA, Michael (Jacqueline) Hild, of Montrose, CO, and Katherine (Bradley) Lynne, of Preston, MN; her grandchildren, Katie, Stacie, Abbie, Lindsey, Casey, Anya, Woody, Marty, Nate and Ally; her mother, Leona Nolte, of Charles City, IA; and her siblings, Larry (Karen) Nolte, of Farmingham, MA, Stephen Nolte, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Scott (Karen) Nolte, of Charles City, IA. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Nolte.
Memorials are preferred to Heartland Animal Rescue Team (H.A.R.T) of Brainerd, MN or Heartland Home Care and Hospice of Brainerd, MN.
