Shirley Ann Clausen, 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Northern Lakes Senior Living in Baxter. Services will be held at Noon, Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pequot Lakes. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services. Private interment at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
Shirley was born December 2, 1927, in Verndale, the daughter of Charles and Myrtle (Fischer) Ostlund. In 1945, Shirley graduated from Verndale High School where she was active in band and 4-H Club. She continued her education at Wadena Normal Training School to become a teacher. Shirley married Claude Clausen on June 8, 1947, and the couple lived in Bemidji, Akeley, Park Rapids, South St. Paul, and on Lake Alexander near Cushing before moving to Baxter.
Shirley prided herself on being a great homemaker - she especially enjoyed cooking and entertaining her family. She also worked outside the home at Divine Redeemer Hospital, Adams Burke Coupon Redemption Center, and Arthur Salm as a production supervisor. Shirley loved the summers they spent at Glacier National Park - 14! She liked fishing, dancing, baking, playing cards, and participating in activities of her Red Hat Club. She also didn't mind a trip to a casino or using a little sarcasm to liven things up. Above all, Shirley loved her family and cherished the moments they could spend together. She will be missed.
She is survived by her children, Carol (Gordon) Bertram, of Nisswa, Barbara (Michael) Morehead, of St. Paul, and Jered Clausen, of St. Paul; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Everett (Eleanor) Ostlund, of Carbonado, WA; and brother-in-law, Jim Miller, of Buckey, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, and four siblings, Kenneth Ostlund, Erwin Ostlund, Bernice Patton, and Darlene Miller.
